FAQ: Recommended 24v and Control Signal Cable

24VAC Power Wire:

• 18 AWG, 2 conductor Non-Shielded Plenum Rated, Solid Copper Conductors
• Red/White conductors
• Red (24V), White (C)

DC Power:

• 18 AWG, 2 conductor Non-Shielded Plenum, Solid Copper Conductors
• Black/White conductors
• White (DC Power), Black (C)

Control Signal:

• 2 Conductor Shielded Plenum Rated
  • Solid conductor when cabling to SmartNodes
  • Stranded conductor in all other cases
• 18/2 (Wet Contacts): Red (Power), Black (C)
• 18/2: White (+), Black (-)
• 18/3: Red (Power), White (+), Black (-)
• 18/4: Red (Power), White (+), Black (- or C), Green (Misc. Signal)

Note: Recommended to only use 18/4 where there is a miscellaneous signal (ex., damper actuator feedback).  Installing 18/4 for two different sensors/signals is not recommended.

Note: Use red conductor for all conductors carrying AC Power

Thermostat Cable:

• Minimum 18/8
• Shielded Plenum rated
• Refer to Airoverse CDDs for proper terminations per application
• User appropriately sized terminal connectors
  • Ferrule connectors for push-in terminals
  • Female slip-on connectors
  • Fork connectors for screw-down terminals
